So why was I excited to experience one of the most deadly natural disasters that occurs on our planet? Because experiencing a phenomenon physically can influence how you think about the use of science in real life.
1) Earthquakes occur every day, almost every hour, on the planet earth. This is a picture of places earthquakes occur, and the Pacific Ring of Fire. This is where tectonic plates converge, volcanoes erupt, and tsunamis are started. It is awesome, powerful, and we have no control over it.
2) Below are the two plates that caused the earthquake I experienced. I physically felt what happens when two incredibly large slabs of the earth's crust, floating on the aesthenosphere and mantle, build up enough energy to slip past each other in one explosive moment.
